Biography

"Any shift in the traffic of information can create not only new thoughts but new ways of thinking."

I'm a Brit living in Los Angeles. Unlike many of my ex-pat friends I am always moaning about the weather--it's too hot for me most of the time. I miss the damp, grey misery of drizzle mixed with the biting cynicism and witty one-liners only the British can muster.
I teach on art, advertising, theology, and culture, I make music, write books. I am intensely curious about religion, belief, and spirituality, and particularly how these dynamics are affected by life in contemporary culture--I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking and worrying about these things.
My interests, like most of the people I know, are really diverse and cover pretty much everything--god, sex, fashion, design--the list goes on and on. I spend way too much money on music, magazines, and books. I like clothes, and get easily distracted by the sharp cut of a suit, or a really good pair of shoes.
I am a great believer that all things are connected, and that there is much value to be found in the detritus of popular culture. I enjoy living in a pick and mix world and think it is good for humanity to exist with plurality, complexity, and chaos as major shapers of how we live with each other--too much trouble has come from our isolated thinking.
I don't want any heroes, don't believe in an interventionist god, don't think all the good music was made years ago, don't support the war, do support Manchester United. I drink PG Tips and Cote du Rhone, and, as Brian Ferry once sang, 'love is the drug.'
