Lorenzo Petrantoni planned on being a carpenter until he won a graphic design competition. He went on to study graphics in Milan and then to work for Armando Testa, one of Italy's best known ad agencies. In his spare time he makes collage art, using old french dictionaries and encyclopedias as his primary source. He mines old books for images and texts which he brings together to create modern icons that speak to the contemporary urban dweller. Working mainly in black and white his pieces are complex and symbolic. It is not hard to make connections with his pieces, and it is fun to scrutinize them for exquisite attention to detail.
