Brokeback Mountain--Capote--Crash--Good Night, And Good Luck--Munich-the five nominations for Best Picture this year. None of them huge blockbuster films--all of them exploring some element of the complexities of being human: sexuality, morality, racism, bigotry, political moralism, revenge and violence. Nice that films which focus on character, emotional complexity and depth managed to garner enough attention to get nominated. I really enjoyed all these films and each one of them has managed to generate some conversation and a little bit of focus on issues that affect us all. Los Angeles is a movie town, so the Oscars are on everybody's lips--personally I much prefer the Grammy's and there is a rumour that Sly and the Family Stone are going to perform on the show next week--that would be Fresh!!!
