Dates always bring out the apocalyptic in us--1000, y2k, 2012---their is always a theory about the impending cosmic shift associated with such and such a date--forget the fact that calendars and time are just constructs---constructs that can vary quite dramatically from culture to culture--today is 5772 on the Jewish calendar, 1432 on the Islamic, 1390 on the Persian, 1933 on the Indian Civil calendar and 220 on the French Republic date calculator?! Bewildering then that we ascribe such importance to what are to some degree arbitrary moments in time--invested with significance by our cultural love affairs with numbers. All that aside--11/11/11/ has a nice symmetry to it--so much so that today is Corduroy Appreciation Day--apparently the digits evoke the look of the fabric.?! Why not?
In the Ancient Mayan calendar--this date supposedly ushers in a planetary rebirth--so of course, here in Los Angeles 600 or so are expected to attend the three-day Crystal Skull World Mysteries Gateway gathering---Mayan shamans from the Yucatan are bringing 13 crystal skulls which will tell the world how to save itself. The Golden Bridge yoga/meditation studio--an LA Yoga nexus point is offering special meditations offering to lead students through magic entry gates into 'galactic manifestation realms.'
How will I acknowledge this auspicious date--well, I don't really drink that much but I might just have to imbibe some of my friend Danny's vodka--crystal skull head---well, what else could it be?!
And of course, let's not forget that this is also Veterans Day.
