There is an interesting article on Olympic street graffiti in London over at Artinfo. I like this one from criminal chalkist, but there are lots of other inspired efforts as well. Much of it has a 'Banksy' feel to it, in fact this one has been assumed to be a Banksy I believe--there is social critique, lots of anti-capitalist/corporate stuff, well worth a look.
I have no major personal ax to grind with the Olympics, although I don't find it particularly inspiring, and I resist the attempt by tv sponsors to try and get us excited about sports with which we have no real connection or interest--I commend those who commit themsleves to a particular sport but most of it holds little or no interest to me.
"Radiation and rockets at the London Olympics you ask? Yes, more than 7,000 tons of radioactive debris pushed just to the side to build the Olympic stadium and anti-aircraft missIes anchored on the rooftops of private London residences. War games, military and private security forces patting down the throngs at a cost of £1 billion ($1.54 billion) just for “security” alone, this is the straw which has finally broken the camel’s back for my lifetime of Olympics watching."
