Son Lux (Ryan Lott) has just released his third full-length recording. Lanterns is very much in the same vein as much of his previous work, but this one feels more soulful and funky somehow--maybe its the beats, which have bit more bite, maybe it's the content, but either way, this is gorgeous stuff. SL is a studio/recording experimentalist who fuses meditative lyrics with multi-layered orchestral and electronic elements, staccato edits and a whole lot of sophisticated musicality. I actually hate trying to explain someones musical approach, it's like trying to describe a colour--I like this and you might as well-that's what I have to say about it.
And with the 'dark moon' cover and the title, perfect for this hallowed eve I say, something to play to the kids when they come knocking for sweets.
