
The political machine is on full-throttle this week. Focus on Super Tuesday, the multi-state primary, has filled the airwaves with an unprecedented political energy. And the candidates? Well they are doing what they do--stumping speeches, shaking hands, making claims and pushing for nominations. There seems to be a singular theme this time around; change. We've heard it on and off since the late 80s here in U.S. politics, but this time around, in the wake of eight years of Bush, too many years of war, and an economic downturn, hunger for change seems to be at an all time high.

Surprise, surprise, not! Tony Blair finally announced a date for his departure from office. Even though I live in California, I am very attached to all things British and was delighted when Blair rolled into Downing Street on the heels of the Thatcher debacle. Cool Brittania, that wave of enthusiasm and hope spurred perhaps by Blairite politics, was even felt over here in the former colonies, but like all things political it seems, those giddy days of high expectancy gave way to growing disappointments. I was immensely disappointed by Blair's courting of the U.S., I realize that politics are complex and that international relations are a knotty thread of strange and interwoven theories and policies,
