I believe that the Lego movie is eating up the box office this weekend! I can't imagine such a thing, but stranger things have happened. But given that Lego is on the cultural radar I thought I'd offer up these quite fantastic renditions of Dante's Nine Circle's of Hell executed in Lego by Romanian artist, Mihai Mihu. Seven months and forty thousand bricks is all it took.
Limbo is at the top of the post, and below are Lust and Fraud,. Each of the nine depictions comes with the artists take on the particular sin and how it is represented in the work.
Dante's appeal doesn't seem to wane very much. In the early 90s German artist Andreas Ammer teamed up with some members of Einstürzende Neubauten and UK DJ John Peel to create an album called, radio Inferno (Amazon has it if you want to give it a listen). Bad Seed alum and EN founder, Blixa Bargeld plays Dante--wild musical ride.
